α-PHiP, also commonly referred to as Alpha-PHiP is a compound of the cathinone class and a structural isomer of the parent compound pyrovalerone, which has been widely prescribed in recent decades for the treatment of lethargy, drowsiness and chronic fatigue.

It is also very similar to the other, better-known compounds A-PHP and MDPV, substances that produce a feeling of euphoria when ingested.

As mentioned above, A PiHP is a cathinone class compound and shares chemical properties with the better researched pyrovalerone - the only difference being a shifted methyl group from the 4-position of the aromatic ring to the 4-position of the acyl chain. Just like pyrovalerone, α-PHiP can be expected to induce euphoria, increased energy and improved focus when ingested, although no studies have been conducted to confirm this.

As with all psychoactive cathinones, it is assumed that α-PHiP increases the release of dopamine and inhibits the reuptake of adrenaline, noradrenaline and serotonin in the central nervous system.

It is worth noting that all cathinones are based on the psychoactive compounds of the khat plant (Catha edulis), the leaves of which produce a stimulant-like effect in those who chew them. Khat has been consumed in this way in many African countries for hundreds of years. All the chemicals in the cathinone family come from this plant.
